Goals
Our overarching goal on Long Island is to maintain and, where necessary, restore a healthy environment and improve the quality of life for all its residents.
The Foundation’s environmental work on Long Island has three goals – improving water quality, improving air quality, and strengthening citizen advocacy and stewardship.
Goal 1
Improve Water Quality.
To meet this goal, we support efforts to:
- Protect, conserve, and restore lands that affect water quality
- Reduce the use of pesticides and other toxins
- Promote the use of organics and other innovations
- Protect, conserve, and restore the Island’s rivers, bays, lakes and estuaries
Goal 2
Improve Air Quality.
To meet this goal, we support efforts to:
- Reduce the amount of toxins released into the environment
- Promote increased efficiencies, conservation and alternative energy generation
Goal 3
Strengthening Citizen Advocacy and Stewardship.
To meet this goal, we support efforts to:
- Educate and engage Long Island’s citizens in environmental advocacy and education
- Encourage Long Island’s citizens to become the environment’s primary stewards
